Academic Expertise
Your tour is private, with an award-winning active doctoral researcher as your guide. You'll learn the real stories behind the stones, the ones the information boards leave out, and you’ll have someone right there to answer every "but why…?" your children (or you) think of. I’ll bring to life archaeology by teaching you to decode inscriptions, and leading interactive/imaginative activities. You’ll gain insights into the research happening behind the scenes that hasn’t yet made it into museums, and understand how modern technology is changing our understanding of life on Hadrian’s Wall.
Bespoke Premium Experience
No two people have the same interests, so no two tours are the same. I have no fixed script and I won’t rush you. I build the day around what your family is curious about with gentle, short walks that suit all ages and abilities, and time to linger wherever something grabs you. We go at your pace, not a timetable's, and we try to get interactive and hands-on wherever possible. My academic and professional connections enable me to offer experiences that other tour companies cannot. I particularly enjoy curating themed tours that help you to build a picture of life on Hadrian’s Wall across multiple sites. Recent themed tours I have offered have included: Roman Religion on Hadrian’s Wall; Everyday Life on Hadrian’s Wall; the Voices of Women on Hadrian’s Wall; Diversity and Hadrian’s Wall and the Life of a Soldier on Hadrian’s Wall.

I take care of the planning so you don't have to, providing you with a a bespoke itinerary, honest advice on tickets and the easiest way to travel (including car-free), and the sites joined into one connected story rather than six separate stops.
You simply turn up and enjoy it!
Pricing
One-hour tour at a site of your choosing
One-site tour is priced at £40/per person.
Bespoke half a day itinerary (3-4 hours)
A half-day tour is priced at £75/ per person.
Bespoke full day itinerary (6 hours)
A full day with Catherine is priced at £125/person. Multiple day itineraries are priced on request.
For all tours, discounts of 50% are available for children aged 5-16. Unders 5s go free. I offer a 10% discount on the overall price for groups between 5-10. Prices do not include site/museum entry or transport. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure all bookings.
